Why Are My Press-On Lashes Sticky? How to Fix Them

A little tackiness is normal with pre-glued lash clusters—but sticky eyelids, lashes sticking together or clusters clinging to your applicator usually means the placement or pressing technique needs a tiny adjustment.

Quick answer: should pre-glued lashes feel sticky?

Yes—before and during application, the adhesive band is meant to feel tacky because it is pressure-sensitive. Once each cluster is positioned about 1 mm away from the waterline and pressed firmly into your natural lashes, the sticky feeling should be minimal. Do not add more glue.

Why Do Pre-Glued Lash Clusters Feel Sticky?

Meraki Press-On Lashes use a pre-applied, pressure-sensitive adhesive. The band needs to stay tacky enough to grip your natural lashes when you press the two together. That is what allows you to apply them without separate lash glue, Bond or Seal.

There is a difference between normal adhesive tackiness and an application issue. The cluster itself may feel sticky while you remove it from the tray, but your finished lash line should feel comfortable and should not continuously stick to your skin, lower lashes or applicator.

Normal

The band feels tacky when touched, the cluster grips your natural lashes, and the finished set feels secure after pressing.

Needs adjusting

Your eyelid or lower lashes catch on the band, the cluster keeps lifting, or the applicator pulls the lash back off after pressing.

How to Fix Sticky Press-On Lashes

Work through these fixes in order. Most sticky Press-On Lash problems are solved by correcting the placement and pressing the cluster firmly against the natural lashes.

1

Leave a 1 mm Gap From the Waterline

Do not place the adhesive band directly onto the eyelid or waterline. Position each cluster underneath your natural lashes, approximately 1 mm away from the waterline. This prevents the exposed adhesive from touching your skin or catching the lower lashes when you blink.

Easy placement check: you should not feel the band poking, pinching or sitting against the wet inner rim of the eye. If you can feel it, gently remove that cluster and reposition it slightly farther away.
2

Press the Cluster Firmly Into Your Natural Lashes

Pressure activates the hold. Once a cluster is in position, use the curved applicator to squeeze the press-on cluster and your natural lashes together. Press along the entire lash line—not only at the outer corner.

3

Check for an Exposed Adhesive Edge

If part of the adhesive band sits beyond your natural lashes, that exposed section can remain noticeably tacky. Gently adjust the cluster so the band is fully supported by the natural lashes, then press again.

4

Keep the Clusters Side by Side

Meraki Press-On Lash clusters are best placed side by side rather than heavily overlapped. Too much overlap can leave sections of adhesive exposed and can create a thick, sticky base.

5

Press Again Before Bed

Give the lash line one final firm squeeze before bed, especially on the first night. This reconnects any area that may have lifted while you were touching or checking the lashes after application.

What If the Press-On Lashes Stick to My Applicator?

This is common during the first application. It normally happens when the applicator touches the adhesive band directly instead of gripping the lash fibres or when the cluster has not yet been pressed securely into the natural lashes.

  1. Pick each cluster up from the base carefully without squeezing the adhesive section.
  2. Place the cluster first, then use the applicator to press the natural and Press-On lashes together.
  3. Release the applicator slowly instead of pulling it away quickly.
  4. If adhesive transfers to the tool, stop and clean the applicator before placing the next cluster.

Make Sure the Protective Seal Is Fully Removed

Each tray has a protective top seal that keeps the Press-On Lash adhesive clean and fresh before use. Remove this seal carefully before trying to lift or apply the clusters. Leaving any protective material in place can make the lashes difficult to pick up and apply correctly.

What Not to Do With Sticky Press-On Lashes

Avoid Why Do this instead
Adding regular lash glue Press-On Lashes already contain adhesive and extra glue may create a messy, uncomfortable base. Reposition and press the existing adhesive firmly.
Placing directly on the waterline The adhesive can touch skin and lower lashes. Leave an approximately 1 mm gap.
Touching the band repeatedly Oil and residue from fingers can reduce grip and spread adhesive. Handle clusters with the precision applicator.
Heavy overlapping It can expose adhesive and make the base bulky. Place clusters neatly side by side.
Pulling the applicator away quickly The tool may lift the cluster back off. Press, pause, then release slowly.
Eye comfort comes first. Remove and reposition any cluster that feels painful, pinchy or sits on the waterline. Stop use if irritation persists. Never place clusters inside the eye or directly on the wet waterline.

How to Prevent Stickiness Before It Starts

Start clean and dry

Apply to clean natural lashes with no mascara, oil, eye cream or makeup remover residue.

Map first

Choose your lengths before application so you are not repeatedly moving a tacky cluster.

Use good lighting

A mirror placed slightly below eye level makes underlash placement easier to see.

Press every section

Fuse the inner, middle and outer clusters firmly against your natural lashes.

Press-On Lash Stickiness FAQs

Are pre-glued lash clusters supposed to be sticky?

Yes. The pressure-sensitive band needs to be tacky so it can grip your natural lashes. The finished set should feel comfortable once the clusters are correctly positioned and firmly pressed.

Why are my upper and lower lashes sticking together?

The adhesive band may be too close to the waterline or part of it may be exposed. Move the cluster approximately 1 mm away from the waterline and press it firmly into the upper natural lashes.

Why do my Press-On Lashes stick to the tweezers?

The applicator may be touching the adhesive directly, or residue may have transferred to the tool. Pick the cluster up carefully, keep the tool clean, press the cluster securely, and release the applicator slowly.

Should I add Bond, Seal or lash glue?

No. Meraki Press-On Lashes are designed as a one-step, pre-glued system. Extra adhesive is not required.

Can I put translucent powder on the adhesive?

Correct placement and firm pressing should be the first fix. We recommend avoiding extra products around the adhesive and eye area unless they are specifically intended for that purpose and you can apply them safely without getting product into the eye.

How long do Meraki Press-On Lashes last?

Wear varies by person, application and aftercare, but they are designed for approximately 5–7 days of wear when applied correctly.

How do I know if a cluster is too close to my waterline?

You may feel poking, pinching or the band touching your eyelid when you blink. Remove and reposition that cluster slightly farther away.
