DIY Lash Extensions at Home:
Everything You Need

By Meraki Lashes & Beauty  ·  Beginner Friendly  ·  5 min read

You do not need a salon appointment to have beautiful lashes. You just need the right kit and five minutes.

If you have been curious about DIY lash extensions but had no idea where to start, you are in exactly the right place. A lot of people assume at home lash extensions are complicated or risky, but the truth is that with the right products and a little patience, it is genuinely one of the easiest beauty upgrades you can add to your routine.

This guide covers everything a complete beginner needs to know before they buy anything. What is in a DIY lash kit, how to apply them, how long they last, and how to take them off safely so your natural lashes stay happy and healthy.

What Are DIY Lash Extensions?

DIY lash extensions are different to strip lashes you peel off at the end of the night. They are individual lash segments that bond to your natural lashes using a specially formulated bond and sealant, and they stay on for up to 7 to 14 days with the right aftercare.

Think of them as a middle ground between a full salon set and a pair of falsies. You get that proper lash extension look, the kind where people genuinely ask if they are real, without the salon price tag or the booking wait.

What Comes in a Meraki DIY Lash Kit?

Everything you need comes together in one kit. Here is what each piece does and why it matters:

What is Inside Your Kit
🌸
Lash Segments
These are the actual lash extensions. Made from Korean PBT silk fibres with an ultra thin band so they sit flush against your natural lashes and look undetectable. You apply them underneath your natural lashes, not on top.
💧
Bond
This is what attaches the lash segment to your natural lashes. You apply a thin layer to the root of your natural lashes before placing each segment. It is gentle, flexible and designed to hold without feeling heavy or stiff.
Sealant
Once your lashes are applied, the sealant goes over the bond line to lock everything in place. This is also what makes your lashes waterproof, sweat proof and gym proof. Do not skip this step.
🔧
Tweezers
Precision tweezers give you control when placing each segment. They make the whole process feel much easier and more accurate, especially when you are just starting out.
🌿
Remover
When you are ready to take your lashes off, the remover dissolves the bond gently so nothing is pulled or tugged. Proper removal is what keeps your natural lashes in great condition so you can apply a fresh set straight away.

Wispy or Full Volume? Choosing Your Style

Meraki offers two DIY lash styles and the right one depends entirely on the look you are going for.

🌿
Wispy
A soft, feathery look with natural variation. Great for everyday wear, workplaces and anyone who wants enhanced lashes without it being obvious.
Full Volume
Bold, fluffy and dramatic. Perfect for events, going out or anyone who just loves a statement lash. Still lightweight and comfortable to wear all day.

If you are truly brand new, Wispy is a wonderful starting point. The natural variation means small placement imperfections are less noticeable while you are finding your technique. Once you feel confident, Full Volume is incredibly satisfying to apply.

💡
Beginner Tip

Do your first application when you have at least 30 minutes and no time pressure. Put on a show you love, grab a good mirror with lighting, and enjoy the process. Your second set will take half the time.

How to Apply Your DIY Lash Extensions

The process is simpler than it looks. Once you have done it once you will be genuinely surprised how easy it becomes.

1
Start with clean dry lashes

Make sure your lashes are completely free of any oils, makeup or residue before you begin. Oil breaks down the bond so clean lashes are the single most important step for good retention.

2
Apply bond to the root of your natural lashes

Using the bond brush or your tweezers, apply a thin layer of bond to the root of your natural lashes. You only need a small amount. Work from the outer corner inward.

3
Place your lash segments

Using your tweezers, pick up a lash segment and slide it underneath your natural lashes so the band sits flush against the bond at the root. Press gently to secure. Work from the outer corner toward the inner corner.

4
Build across the lash line

Continue placing segments along your lash line, layering and overlapping slightly to create a full seamless look. You control how dramatic or natural the result is based on how many segments you apply.

5
Seal everything in place

Once you are happy with your placement, apply the sealant over the bond line at the base of the segments. This locks your lashes in and activates the waterproof hold. Let it dry completely before touching your lashes.

How Long Do They Last?

With proper application and aftercare, Meraki DIY lash extensions typically last 7 to 14 days. The biggest factors are how clean your lashes were before application, whether you applied sealant properly, and how you care for them day to day.

To get the most out of your set, avoid getting them wet for the first 24 hours after application, steer clear of oil based products around the eye area, and resist the urge to rub your eyes. Other than that, go about your day completely normally. They are waterproof, sweat proof and gym proof once the sealant has set.

How to Remove Them Safely

This is the step most people are nervous about and it really does not need to be. The Meraki remover is designed specifically to dissolve the bond gently without any pulling or damage to your natural lashes.

Simply saturate your lash line with remover, wait 30 to 60 seconds, then slide each segment off gently. Clean your natural lashes thoroughly afterward, let them breathe for a few hours if you like, and you are ready to apply a fresh set whenever you want.

🌿
Your natural lashes will thank you

Never pull or tug at your lash segments to remove them. Always use the remover. This is what makes the difference between lashes that stay healthy over time and ones that thin out from repeated application.

Are DIY Lash Extensions Safe for Natural Lashes?

Yes, when applied and removed correctly they are completely safe. The Meraki DIY system was designed with natural lash health in mind. The segments are lightweight, the band is ultra thin so there is no heavy pulling on your natural lashes, and the remover ensures nothing is ever forced off.

They are also vegan, cruelty free and made from Korean PBT silk fibres, which are gentle and hypoallergenic for the vast majority of people.
